Specialising in doublehanded offshore, I am committed to developing and learning every time I sail. I am continually inspired by the people I sail with and being able to share knowledge and learn together is what makes it so enjoyable.
Calanach (Cal) Finlayson grew up in a remote glen in Northeast Scotland, where his love for adventure and the sea began early. He first set sail at age 14 with Montrose Sailing Club, quickly developing a deep passion for the sport. He now has a wealth of offshore experience including 2x Atlantic crossings, 3x Fastnet, 3x Middle Sea Race, Round Britain & Ireland and more.
As co-founder of Solan Ocean Racing and a world champion in doublehanded offshore racing, Cal is recognized for his calm leadership, tactical skill, and commitment to continuous improvement. Cal embodies the spirit of Unity Sailing—bringing not only expertise but also a genuine enthusiasm for coaching and empowering others. He believes in fostering teamwork, supporting fellow sailors, and sharing the joy of sailing with everyone he meets.
